About us

November 2004 – Lynne is designing bespoke gowns for clients from her shop “Maddy Sinclair” and studio in Westerham, Kent.

She browses through a free booklet from the Post Office published by the Government Dept. for International Development called Towards a Better World whilst queuing to buy Christmas card stamps.

What she read about traditional silk production methods, namely the still common use of child slave labour, unnecessary killing of silk worm larvae and the highly toxic chemicals used to clean and dye the silk determines in her a resolve to play her part in bringing the conscience-less world of traditional Bridal and Occasion couture into the 21st century; eco-awareness, human and animal rights in trading and commerce.

Christmas 2004 – Mark and Paula are “Lawood”, designing one-off garments from re-constructed donation garments. Lynne meets Mark and Paula through a mutual friend on Christmas Eve in a pub. They get on famously and discover mutual twin passions; fashion and environmental concern.

February 2005 - Lynne is very excited on visiting a local shop where she sees Mark and Paula`s fabulous unique prints and garments. She realises that their contemporary prints and high fashion savvy would enrich her technical expertise and experience with the Couture market.

March 2005 – Lynne meets up with Mark and Paula to pitch her ideas for a new joint venture, little knowing that they were looking to move from day wear into more exclusive fashion. GAIAHOUSE was conceived.

It very soon became clear that if ethics are missing from Bridal wear design, the traditional perception of eco clothing is equally distant from bespoke couture. They agreed that their distinctive combination of skills could uniquely merge ethics with couture and we hope you are as delighted with the result as they are.
